Special Event: Rohatsu

7:00 pm Thursday December 3, 2020 to 9:00 am Sunday December 6, 2020

We are pleased to announce our next retreat at Lakeland Zen Community in Lakeland, FL. We look forward to seeing you all at our Rohatsu Sesshin with Lou Mitsunen Nordstrom Roshi.

Please join us as we celebrate Mitsunen Roshi's 50th anniversary of Zen practice.

Dates: Thursday, December 3rd - Sunday, December 6th 2020

Sesshin will begin promptly at 7:00 pm on the 3rd and will end on Sunday morning, by 9:00am. We are asking everyone to be present Thursday evening for instruction, sesshin precautions and opening remarks. The retreat will culminate with a Rohatsu vigil Saturday evening.

Cost for the retreat is $95.00 (Plus Dana for Roshi) You may register and pay for the retreat on the Temple's Paypal link on our website:  www.hokorizencenter.org

A Sesshin is a multiple-day retreat in which we take time out of our busy lives to focus on our spiritual practice. We do multiple periods of zazen (seated meditation) with periods of kinhin (walking meditation) in between. We also do samu (work practice) and chanting services. Our teacher, Roshi Lou Mitsunen Nordstrom, will give Dharma talks daily.

All participants will receive Dokusan (private interview) with Roshi.

Sleeping arrangements are dormitory style and all meals are included beginning Friday morning with breakfast.  You may arrange a hotel room if that is preferable (approx. 5-10 minutes away). For those who wish to stay at a nearby hotel, we have a list to choose from. Please let us know if you need the hotel list.

Please bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping pad or air mattress. Please also bring blankets, linens/pillows, towels, toiletries etc. We have a small shower facility at the church. There are also bathrooms that may be used for washing.

You may join us anytime your schedule allows, but it is highly recommended that you attend the entire sesshin to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to deepen your practice in the warmth of the temple and the sangha. Please let us know when you plan to arrive.

Please RSVP that you are coming and when. It is important so suitable plans can be made for space and food.

We look forward to seeing you all at sesshin!
