Summer Sesshin 2026

Summer Sesshin 2026 with Greg Shinshyou Hicks Roshi and special guests Mico Ryutaku Olmos Roshi and Sarah Nanshin Boyles Sensei. 

7:00 pm Tuesday, June 30th, 2026 to 9:00 am Sunday, July 5th, 2026

This sesshin will culminate in a Shuso Hossen for Koshin (Betzy). This marks an important right of passage where we come together as a sangha to recognize Koshin's years of dedication to the practice and the sangha. It also recognizes her as a senior student and Koshin will continue to take on more leadership roles within the community. Please join us in supporting Koshin and in celebrating this joyous occasion. As part of shuso hossen, Koshin with officiate service for the first time Saturday morning and will give her first dharma talk followed by mondo. Koshin's dharma talk will begin at 3:30 on Saturday the 4th.

Cost for the full retreat is $175.00 (Plus Dana for the Roshi) You may register and pay for the retreat on the paypal link on our website: www.hokorizencenter.org under Dana for the Sangha.

 

 

 

A Sesshin is a multiple-day retreat in which we take time out of our busy lives to focus on our spiritual practice. We do multiple periods of zazen (seated meditation) with periods of kinhin (walking meditation) between. We also do samu (work practice) and chanting services. There will be daily Dharma Talks and Dokusan. (Private Interview) 

          Sleeping arrangements are dormitory style and all meals are included beginning Wednesday morning with breakfast. You may arrange a hotel room if that is preferable (approx. 5-10 minutes away). For those who wish to stay at a nearby hotel, we have a list to choose from. Please let us know if you need the hotel list.
           
Please bring your own sleeping bag, sleeping pad or air mattress. Please also bring blankets, linens/pillows, towels, toiletries etc. We have a small shower facility at the church. There are also bathrooms that may be used for washing. 

           To help with planning, pre-registration is required whether you are doing the entire retreat or just the weekend. Thank you.
